It’s Thankful Thursday!

This Thursday we are extra grateful for the support of our ENTIRE community. ❤️🫶🏻

Because of YOU we’ve been distributing over 30,000 lbs of food to over 300 hundred families and almost 1,000 individuals per month. While it’s easy to get lost in the vastness of those numbers, we can’t help but appreciate how many act of kindness, both big and small, go into each and every shopping day.

Every donated food item, whether purchased or garden grown, helps to keep our shelves stocked for our visitors.

Every donated dollar helps us leverage purchasing power to buy healthy staples in bulk at the best possible prices- especially proteins like meat!

Every business sponsorship and foundation grant is not only in an investment in feeding our neighbors, but also in our future operations as we expand to meet the ever growing need.

Every volunteer hour is the literal lifeblood that keeps the food bank running. Nothing would be possible without our volunteers.

Every like, comment, and share helps improve our visibility to both potential clients and donors.

Did you know we are currently serving close to 1,000 of our neighbors per month?

As you can imagine, that means we are moving A LOT of food over here. While we’re lucky to receive a huge amount of donated food through CT FoodShare, our community partners, and many of YOU, ensuring a good variety of healthy food options means increasingly regular shopping trips.

Of course, meat shopping for 75 families is a little more complicated than purchasing for just one. That is why we are EXTRA grateful for our local grocers who are willing to let us order in bulk at the best prices possible, allowing us to stretch every dollar farther to feed our community.

Today we want to give a HUGE thanks to ShopRite in Southbury for going above and beyond to work with us when we needed 100 lbs of ground beef on short notice. They not only filled the entire order without any blips, but also offered a discount, helped us load, and even offered to deliver our future bulk orders. Talk about amazing service!

How lucky are we to have so many amazing local businesses?

As the demand continues to grow and WE all do our best to meet it your support keeps us going.
This was this morning’s shopping trip! Enough Chicken and a few pork chops to get us through the next 2 shopping days. Healthy protein to share with 50 families.

Non-perishable items can be dropped off outside the food bank in the blue bins or doing our regular hours, OR, tomorrow (5/10), you can leave them at your mailbox as part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Meet Our Staff

Executive Director

Kristina Walton

Kristina became executive director of the food bank in 2024 and has worked alongside dedicated staff and volunteers to expand the hours and offerings available. Her passion is making sure all our neighbors have their needs met, including feeling seen, heard, and loved. When she is not at the food bank or in the community advocating for her neighbors, Kristina enjoys spending time with her husband Ty and 5 children who she steward's the Oxford Neighbor to Neighbor Pantry with out of their home.

Her super power is: Creating MAGIC

Darlene Swanat

Darlene is our super kind and caring front end person. If you call or come in, Darlene will be the first person you meet. She has spent many years dedicating her time and energy to the food bank and our community. When she isn't at the food bank, she enjoys spending time with her family, cat, and a good book. We are so very lucky to have her and know you will feel the same when you meet her.

Her super power is: There is nothing she can't do!
